The Dallas Mavericks needed to cut into the Indiana Pacers’ lead in a hurry during Saturday afternoon’s game as they trailed by 5 points with less than 18 seconds left. It was obvious they would likely be going for a 3-pointer, but the Mavericks probably weren’t expecting for the Pacers to read their minds perfectly.
Well, maybe not all of the Pacers, but Monta Ellis remembered what play his former team was going to in this situation, a sidelines out-of-bounds play coming out a timeout. Ellis motioned to his Indiana teammates that Dallas would be setting up a 3-point shooter on the far side of the floor as the ball handler drove to the basket.
