The Pacers pulled out all the stops, including a street-legal Indy Car with an extra, extra long driver tub, to deliver their bid to host the 2021 NBA All-Star team in Indianapolis.
Larry Bird used up ever bit of space inside the custom Indy Car for a ceremonial delivery of the bid to Adam Silver at the NBA offices in New York.
Bird’s high-profile role in the bid delivery is not the move of a team president considering an exit plan. After a rough season and rough waters on the horizon dealing with Paul George’s status, the idea that Bird would turn the team over to Kevin Pritchard or someone else as opposed to dealing with rebuilding the roster, seems like a reasonable offseason development.
