Carmelo Anthony and Kyrie Irving led a fourth quarter surge to save the U.S. Olympic basketball team from an early upset Wednesday in a 98-88 victory over Australia.
Anthony became the U.S.'s all-time leading scorer in the Olympics, finishing with 31 points and hitting 9-of-15 3-point field goals. Irving scored 19 points and scored eight straight points before Kevin Durant closed out the scoring with two foul shots in the final seconds.
It was the first test for Team USA, which had breezed to dominant victories in all five exhibition games and the first two Olympic games.
