OPENING TIP
Indiana University begins its 119th season of competition in men's basketball. The Hoosiers will host Marquette in the Gavitt Tipoff Games featuring teams from the Big Ten taking on squads from the Big East. This will be the third time that IU has participated in the event. In 2015, IU defeated Creighton at home, 86-65, while the Hoosiers fell last year at Seton Hall 84-68. IU is picked to finish third in the Big Ten, while Marquette is picked to finish second in the Big East. IU leads the series 7-2.
The teams last met in the Great Alaska Shootout in November of 2001 (Marquette 50, IU 49) and will square off in Assembly Hall for the first time since the 1985 Postseason NIT (IU 94, Marquette 82 2 OT).
