James Blackmon Jr. out until September after knee surgery

Indiana sophomore guard is out until September after undergoing surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, according to Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel.

According to SI’s report, the 6-foot-4 guard has been given a six-to-eight week timetable to return, which should put him back before the start of practice.

“It was a tough setback for James and all of us, but in the scheme of things relatively minor in the way that it has all been handled,” IU coach Tom Crean told SI. “He had a great spring and was in the midst of having an even better summer.
