It’s July 1 and the Name, Image and Likeness Era starts today

The day that should have arrived half a century ago is finally here.

Beginning today, Indiana athletes — and their counterparts across the country — are open for business. July 1 marks the start of a new era for college athletics now that the NCAA is allowing players in all sports to make money off of their names, images and likenesses.

At IU, athletic department officials have been actively preparing for this day for nearly a year following the creation of an NIL taskforce in August 2020. On Wednesday evening, shortly after the university conducted Zoom meetings with coaches and athletes across the 17th street athletics campus, Indiana released its official NIL policies for the public to digest.
