Hoosiers in the Olympics: Ching Hwee Gan sets another Singaporean national record

Ching Hwee Gan set the Singaporean national record in the women’s 800-meter freestyle. Again.

Gan hit a time of 8:32.37 in her preliminary heat of the event on Friday, knocking just under two seconds off of her previous best time. She ultimately finished 11th in the event overall.

It wasn’t exactly an ideal start to the race for Gan, according to The Straits Times. Gan experienced a stomachache after warmups and then her heat was delayed for separate reasons. Nevertheless, she was able to perform and break her previous record set at June’s Singapore National Swimming Championships.
