BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana junior outfielder Matt Gorski was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in second round and the 57th overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft on Monday night. He is the highest Indiana draft pick since Kyle Schwarber in 2014 (1st round, fourth overall).
Gorski becomes the 95th all-time draft pick at IU. He is the seventh-highest draft pick ever at IU and is 17th overall player to be picked in the top five rounds.
Gorski, a 2019 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, served as IU's primary right fielder to start 2019, having started 14 games, but took over the centerfielder duties (43 games) after Logan Kaletha's injury.
