PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior defender Walid Kherat (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping lead a defensive effort which helped Bradley Soccer earn a season-opening 0-0 draw with Belmont.
Kherat and the Bradley defense held Belmont to just eight shots in Friday's season opener with the Bruins failing to put a single shot on goal. The defensive effort marked the first time since a 3-0 win against Mercer Sept. 6, 2009 that Bradley did not allow its opponent to record a single shot on frame, with Belmont managing just one shot in the two overtime periods as the Braves extended their non-conference unbeaten streak to 15 games.
