BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Vinatieri family knows a little something about game-winning kicks, and Illinois State was the victim Saturday at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
Chase Vinatieri, the nephew of veteran NFL place-kicker Adam Vinatieri, drilled a 43-yard field goal in overtime to lift No. 5-ranked South Dakota State to a 27-24 Missouri Valley Conference victory.
"That's my job. That's what I came here to do," Vinatieri said. "I wasn't even thinkng about the offense (during OT). I was just in my own zone getting warmed up."
SDSU (8-2, 5-2) won the overtime coin toss and elected to play defense.
