NORMAL — Northern Iowa was the only Missouri Valley Conference team that Anthony Beane Jr. had failed to score 20 points against in his first three seasons at Southern Illinois. The Normal Community High School product emphatically took care of that Saturday.
Beane’s career-high 32 points propelled the surprising Salukis to a 75-73 victory over UNI. For his exploits, Beane was named Co-Valley Player of the Week on Monday along Evansville’s Egidijus Mockevicius.
UNI coach Ben Jacobson couldn’t fault his team’s defense as Beane made 11 of 17 field goal attempts and 6 of 10 outside the arc.
