INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants for the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships preliminary competitions Thursday, and a total of 20 Redbird student-athletes made the cut.
The 20 'Birds that move on to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary at California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California, on May 24-26 is a program-high. The Redbirds also had three relays qualify, the most in Illinois State track & field history.
The Redbird men, who qualified both their 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays, advance 12 student-athletes to the the NCAA West Preliminary round:
LaMont Allen – High Jump
Jack Anstey – 1,500-meter
Ryan Ashenbremer – Pole Vault
Anderson Devonish – 200-meter, 400-meter, and 4x400-meter Relay
Francis Ehigbai – High Jump
Brandon Gage – 4x400-meter Relay
Andy Hatch – 4x100-meter Relay
DeShaun Jordan – 4x100-meter Relay
Avery Lyons – 4x400-meter Relay
Kyle Mattes – 10,000-meter
Jaylan McConico – 110-meter Hurdles, 4x100-meter Relay
Ben Montgomery – 200-meter, 400-meter, 4x100-meter Relay, and 4x400-meter Relay
The Illinois State women, who were recently crowned the 2018 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Champions, qualified eight student-athletes:
Demetria Anderson – 100-meter Hurdles, 4x100-meter Relay
Grace Beattie – 3,000-meter Steeplechase
Julia Bourke – Hammer Throw
Emily Cowan – 4x100-meter Relay
D'Jenne Egharevba – 100-meter, 200-meter, 4x100-meter Relay
Sydney Laufenberg – Discus
Kelsie Prear – 4x100-meter Relay
Brandy Thomas – Shot Put
