NORMAL — A San Diego native who holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Idaho has found a home and a place-kicking job at Illinois State.
"I graduated in three years. I got to the point where I really didn't play at Idaho," Sam Fenlason said Wednesday at Hancock Stadium. "I wanted to play somewhere. A lot of FBS schools said if you come here we'll offer you a scholarship second semester. But it didn't feel like the right fit."
Fenlason has converted three of four field goal tries and is 16 of 17 on extra points for the 3-0 Redbirds, who open their Missouri Valley Football Conference schedule Saturday at Plaster Stadium in Springfield, Mo.
