NORMAL — Illinois State football coach Brock Spack remembers all too well a 2012 game when an injury to Darrelynn Dunn left the Redbirds threadbare at tailback.
“I’m not going to get caught short ever again,” said Spack, who signed three tailbacks in a 17-player recruiting class Wednesday.
And with workhorse Marshaun Coprich having exhausted his eligibility after a 331-carry, 1,967-yard senior season, Spack believes tailbacks James Robinson of Rockford Lutheran, Jordan Birch of Andover, Kan., and Artiss Henderson of Irving, Texas, will contend for playing time as true freshmen.
“There are a lot of carries up for grabs, and guys (already) on this campus have got to convince me more than I am right now,” Spack said.
