EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A season-best 25-point first quarter gave Illinois State an early lead and the Redbirds went on to defeat Evansville, 64-57, Friday night in Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball action at the Ford Center.
Senior Colleene Smith had a career-high 20 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals to lead ISU (5-14, 3-5 MVC). The Redbirds never trailed in dropping Evansville to 2-17 and 1-7 in the league.
Freshman Shakeela Fowler added 15 points and had a career-high eight assists for ISU, which posted its first road win of the season. Freshman Katrina Beck finished with 13 points, including 12 from 3-point range in the first half.
