CHICAGO — Once Illinois State’s basketball team stopped shooting 3-pointers and opted for layups instead, things improved in a hurry Wednesday night at the UIC Pavilion.
Paris Lee had four layups in a 16-2 run, dominated by a ball-hawking defense, that overturned an eight-point deficit with 14:20 left. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell led the way with 18 points as ISU claimed a 72-60 victory over Illinois-Chicago.
ISU (5-6), which made only one of its first 15 attempts from outside the arc, received a season-high 17 points from Lee while MiKyle McIntosh added 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
