TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — This was new territory for Illinois State in a Missouri Valley Conference basketball game. The Redbirds went 3-0 to start league play by trailing early by double digits.
Finding itself in the unaccustomed spot of enjoying a 13-point lead late in Saturday's first half at the Hulman Center, the Redbirds quickly fell behind after the intermission thanks to Brenton Scott.
The sophomore guard sank four 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of the second half as Indiana State seized control. The Sycamores thwarted a late Redbird rally as Scott scored a career-high 25 points in a 77-65 victory before a crowd of 3,801.
