Reynolds: Follow your shot? Not so much anymore

College basketball stats guru Ken Pomeroy penned an intriguing story in The Athletic this week about offensive rebounding being at an all-time low.

This year, only 28.5 percent of missed shots have been rebounded by the offense. That continues a steady decline in the category over the past decade. In the 2009-10 season, that number was over 34 percent.

Why the dropoff? Pomeroy suggests the primary reasons are to prevent transition opportunities by the opposition or to avoid fouls.

While those may be valid concerns, he also points out that teams are giving up scoring chances as well.
