NORMAL – Paris Lee led the way as Illinois State rallied from a 14-point deficit early in the second half to upset No. 21-ranked Wichita State, 58-53, in a Missouri Valley Conference basketball game before a Redbird Arena season high crowd of 8,284.
Lee scored 19 points for the Redbirds (14-11, 8-4), who beat Wichita State for the first time at Redbird Arena since Dec. 29, 2009. Deontae Hawkins added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.
Wichita State (17-6, 11-1) had its 12-game winning streak snapped. Ron Baker and Shaquille Morris paced the Shockers with 10 points each.
