NORMAL — The growing pains of four freshmen playing major minutes is showing up in the Illinois State women’s basketball team shooting percentage.
Yet freshmen Shakeela Fowler, Millie Stevens, Katrina Beck and Viria Livingston, who have all shown considerable promise in other areas, are only part of a struggling Redbirds’ offense entering Monday’s 7 p.m. nonconference game against Chicago State at Redbird Arena.
“The speed of the game is different,” ISU coach Barb Smith said. “Players could make 10 of 10 in practice, but in a game it’s just different. They are figuring all that out.”
Fowler is the Redbirds’ leading scorer at 12.
