NORMAL — Deonte Hawkins led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds as Illinois State survived a last-second 3-point miss by Murray State's Jeffery Moss to gain a 63-61 non-conference basketball victory Sunday before a Redbird Arena crowd of 4,239.
The Redbirds (4-6), who had lost four of their last five games, also received 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench from Nick Banyard. Devaughn Akoon-Purcell added 11 points.
ISU sank a season-high 10 3-pointers, but made only 3 of 12 free throws. The Redbirds play at Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday.
Murray State (5-5) was paced by forward Wayne Langston with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
