Redbirds fall on 8th inning homer

NORMAL — It's called the "Mendoza Line" and the term is applied when a batter's average reaches a particular level of frustration and futility, most often defined as hitting .200 or below.

Evansville freshman designated hitter Brendan Krob had a ways to go to rise to the .200 threshold when play began on Sunday afternoon and had actually seen his average dip below .100 after his first two at-bats.

"I didn't start off the way I wanted to this year, but I've been getting more comfortable and more confident," Krob said.

That comfort and confidence helped Krob tie into a 3-1 fastball from Illinois State reliever Trevor Cross to lead off the eighth inning.
