ROCKFORD, Ill. – Despite winning the doubles point, the Illinois State men's tennis team lost its early lead and the match, 4-3, to Northern Illinois Friday at the Boylan Tennis Center. ISU suffered its first loss of the spring season to fall to 4-1, while NIU improved to 6-3.
"I was happy with how we competed and played doubles," Illinois State head coach Mark Klysner said. "We played today more like we are capable of playing. In singles, we had a couple of solid results, but overall, it was not our best tennis. I just don't think we played very smart collectively on each court, and we need to do a better job tomorrow when we play a tough Cleveland State squad.
