St. Louis, Mo. – After a historic performance at the Gans Creek Classic, Senior Mathis Chavand has been named this week's (Sep. 30) Runner of the Week by the Missouri Valley Conference.
Chavand secures his second Runner of the Week award after previously receiving the honor on Sep. 16.
Chavand set a new school record in the 8,000 meters with a time of 23:20.9, beating a 10-year-old program record previously held by Ryan Rutherford by 30 seconds. On his path to making history, Chavand finished ninth at the 40-plus school event.
Chavand now holds two school records, including the outdoor track 5,000-meter record he set last spring.
