NORMAL — Hesitant to start a freshman, even a talented one, Rockford Lutheran High School football coach Bruce Bazsali kept James Robinson on the bench to begin the 2012 season opener.
But Bazsali could resist only so long. “The first five times he touched the ball he scored,” Bazsali said. “That opened everybody’s eyes.”
Robinson, who has been opening eyes and setting records ever since, will sign a national letter of intent to play at Illinois State on Wednesday, Bazsali confirmed on Tuesday.
“It’s a perfect fit for him. I’m glad he stayed in Illinois,” said Bazsali.
