If there was any doubt how great an underdog Loyola was in this year’s NCAA Final Four, just check out the annual salaries paid to each coach:
* Bill Self, Kansas, $4.8 million
* John Beilein, Michigan, $3.4 million
* Jay Wright, Villanova, $2.6 million
* Porter Moser, Loyola, $420,000.
And while Moser was rewarded last month with a raise and contract extension through 2026, there’s also no doubt the undisclosed wage bump he received failed to place him anywhere near the financial neighborhood of his Final Four peers. Not to mention most any other men’s head basketball coach currently working in the Power 5 conferences and the Big East.
