CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Northern Iowa put on a shooting clinic in the first half Wednesday night and in the process shot Illinois State down to fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Panthers made 9 of 14 attempts from outside the arc and 8 of 8 at the free throw line in taking a 12-point halftime lead. The Redbirds, who were tied for first just eight days ago, couldn’t recover as UNI took a 77-64 victory at McLeod Center.
Phil Fayne paced the Redbirds (14-12, 7-6), who lost their third straight game, with 21 points.
