A busy offseason took an unexpected turn for former Normal West High School and Illinois State standout Brock Stewart on Thursday.
Stewart, who pitched in the major leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays last season, got a new team Thursday when the Chicago Cubs selected him in the Triple A phase of the Rule V Draft.
“I was completely surprised,” Stewart said. “The week before I got married I was off the Blue Jays (40-man) roster and outrighted to Triple A. I was looking forward to proving people wrong and getting back to the best version of me.
