NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State sophomore linebacker Tye Niekamp had a stellar day for the No. 18 Redbirds in their 45-10 road win at No. 19 Southern Illinois, and for his efforts he was named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for Week 6 college football games ending on Oct. 5. Niekamp was also honored on Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office.
Niekamp was honored alongside Weber State's Richie Munoz (Offense), Houston Christian's Dillon Fedor (Special Teams) and Villanova's David Avit (Freshman) as this week's Stats Perform FCS national honorees.
