The Hawkeyes earned wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots of doubles to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Willie Davies defeated Diego Le Gal Perez in straight sets, while Jason Kerst brought the lead to 3-0 after picking up a win over Zacharias Rankloo Rasmussonin flight six. Oliver Okonkwo locked in the win for Iowa with a victory in third singles against Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe.
