AZUSA, CA – Competing in the Heat Four of the Women's 5,000 meters at the Brian Clay Invitational, Sophia McDonnell demolished her personal record by more than 22 seconds as she placed placed 75 out of 79 runners with a time of 16:59.92.
McDonnell was running her first outdoor 5,000 meter race since last season's Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where she placed sixth in a time of 17:56.58. It was just the third outdoor 5,000 meters of her career. McDonnell's previous PR of 17:22.66 came last season at the Illinois State Invitational.
