BLOOMINGTON — Landon Pflederer didn't step away from the challenge in Saturday night's 109th McLean County Tournament boys championship game.
Tremont High School's senior guard scored 18 of his 29 points in the second half as the third-seeded Turks edged No. 4 El Paso-Gridley, 64-61, in a tense back-and-forth showdown at Shirk Center.
"It's awesome. We've worked hard for this and to get this one is special," said Pflederer of the Turks' first County title. "In this atmosphere we had to settle down and play our game, and that's what we did."
Titus Thompson added 17 points for the Turks (17-5).
