NORMAL — After amassing more than 7,000 yards of total offense over two seasons, Tre Roberson’s days as Illinois State quarterback are finished.
The competition to succeed Roberson was settled well before the senior took his final Redbird snap.
“We are very curious to watch him,” ISU coach Brock Spack said of Jake Kolbe, who served as No. 2 quarterback as a redshirt freshman this past season. “He’s done a really good job here. He’s waited patiently. He’s very smart, tough, competitive. He throws really well and on time, on target.”
The 6-foot-3 Kolbe completed 26 of 40 passes for 264 yards in relief of Roberson during ISU’s recently completed 10-3 season.
