EUGENE, Ore. — Illinois State senior and University High School graduate Ryan Rutherford finished in 22nd place in Wednesday night's 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships.
Rutherford posted a time of 31 minutes, 34.05 seconds. Edward Cheserek of Oregon topped the 24-runner field with a time of 29:09.57.
Cheserek found another gear and added to his large championship collection.
The Oregon junior's signature kick on the final lap helped him to his 14th NCAA title.
Cheserek picked up the pace with about 250 meters to go to pull away from five other runners and win the 6.
