"I remember when I stayed at Wilkins Hall and those long, cold walks to class some mornings when you felt you weren't going to get to the class room before your face froze up on you," said Collins, who arrived at ISU from downstate Benton in the fall of 1969.
"Then, going home and running to Horton Field House and playing ball until all hours of the night, that was being a wealthy man to me. Doing that, I felt pretty rich."
Having Doug Collins associated with Illinois State for 40-plus years has made the school feel pretty rich, too.
