The Illinois State women’s basketball team was neither as Valparaiso led nearly the entire Missouri Valley Conference game while defeating the Redbirds, 78-70, before a Play4Kay game crowd of 1,668.
“I’m extremely disappointed,” said ISU coach Kristen Gillespie, whose team beat Valpo by 12 on the road earlier this season. “They outplayed us for 40 straight minutes. They had more juice. They wanted this game so much more.”
The Redbirds overcame similar offensive struggles on Friday in a win over Loyola with late-game heroics from Lexi Wallen. Sunday, ISU did not lead after scoring the first two points and fell to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in the Valley.
