NORMAL — September 29, 2018, is not a day Sam Fenlason will ever remember with fondness.
In a 24-21 Illinois State loss to Missouri State, Fenlason missed a first-quarter field goal attempt of 49 yards. On the final play, Fenlason’s boot from 32 yards was blocked.
Disappointment soon gave way to motivation, and Fenlason’s 2019 season has been decidedly better.
“I really got tired of my teammates saying I needed to improve,” Fenlason said. “It was on me to do it. The miss at Missouri State really forced me to pay attention to how I affected the season.
