CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The No. 3 seeded Illinois State volleyball team downed No. 6 seed Evansville, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20, in a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament first-round match on Thursday.
Kaylee Martin led the Redbirds (20-11) with 12 kills. Stef Jankiewicz added 36 assists and Kendal Meier 23 digs. Sarah Kushner chipped 15 digs for ISU, which outhit Evansville (16-14), .159 to .088.
The Redbirds will face No. 2 seed Loyola (21-10) in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
ISU trio honored: ISU's Stef Jankiewicz, Kaylee Martin and Sydney Holt were placed on the the all-Missouri Valley Conference first team, it was announced Thursday at the league's annual awards ceremony.
