CHAMPAIGN — Illinois State’s three ninth-inning hits knocked out Illinois starter Ty Weber on Saturday at Illinois Field.
Yet Weber lasted that long only because the Redbirds could muster just four hits over the first eight innings.
ISU scored twice in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate before dropping a 4-2 nonconference decision to the Fighting Illini before a crowd of 1,573.
“Things didn’t really go our way,” said Redbirds second baseman Derek Parola. “The ninth inning things started to fall a little more. It’s nice to have a little fight at the end.
