NORMAL — Illinois State quarterback Brady Davis arose from his chair at the postgame news conference Saturday and offered the assembled media a warning.
True enough, shortly thereafter a version of ISU head coach Brock Spack never seen in a decade as Redbird coach took his seat behind the microphone.
“If we win by 35 or more. That was the agreement,” Spack said after ISU’s 51-3 victory over Southern Illinois. “They were hooting and hollering at halftime (with ISU leading 31-0) that it was coming off.”
Quarterback Jake Kolbe offered the proposition and Spack agreed, partly because the Redbirds lost by 34 points to the Salukis last season in Carbondale.
