Hendren, Redbirds pin first loss on Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. — Jared Hendren delivered a tiebreaking single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Saturday to lift the Illinois State baseball team to a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Oregon at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.

The Redbirds (2-4) loaded the bases on walks to Ryan Hutchinson, Daniel Dwyer and Joe Kelch by Kyle Robeniol (1-1). Hendren followed with his second hit of the day with a knock to right field that gave ISU a 3-1 lead on the way to handing the Ducks their first loss in six games.

ISU starting pitcher Steve Heilenbach (2-0) outdueled projected first-round draft pick Matt Krook.
