Sophomore Alec Hartman of the Bradley track team clocked a school-record time in the 800m run on Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals for the second-straight season at the NCAA West Preliminary in Sacramento.
Hartman crossed the finish line in 1:49.10 on Thursday, finishing second in his heat to qualify automatically to the next round and was sixth of 48 runners overall. The sophomore also broke his own school record in the event, surpassing the previous standard of 1:49.72 that he set last season at the same meet.
One of 24 runners to qualify for the quarterfinals, Hartman will now run on Friday for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas.
