VALPARAISO, Ind. — Markus Golder banked in a halfcourt shot at the buzzer as Valparaiso beat Illinois State, 58-56, in the Missouri Valley Conference basketball opener at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
Zach Copeland scored 21 points thanks to five 3-pointers, both season highs, while Phil Fayne added 14 for the Redbirds (7-7), who squandered a 10-point lead in the last two minutes. ISU has lost five of its last six games.
