PEORIA — Luqman Lundy grew up with a trumpet in his hands — and a saxophone and drumsticks.
“I didn’t start playing basketball until fifth grade,” said the Bradley senior guard. “Until then, I was all music. There was no choice. We had to learn to play something. There was a lot of pressure with my family being who they are.”
The Lundy family needs no introduction to jazz fans. Luqman’s father, Curtis, is a renowned bass player who is also a composer, producer, choir director and arranger.
The elder Lundy’s arrangement of “Walk With Me” was sampled by rapper Kanye West and became the Grammy Award-winning hit “Jesus Walks.
