Fowler, hot-shooting ISU women down Indiana State

NORMAL — Illinois State freshman Shakeela Fowler made her way down court in a slow jog, peering back toward Coach Barb Smith for instruction.

Yet time was short and out of necessity so was Smith's advice.

"Poor thing," Smith said. "She was looking at me and all I said was 'go.' "

Fowler aimed, fired and swished a 31-foot 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer that was indicative of a new-found confidence and a recently discovered shooting touch ISU rode to a 73-62 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Indiana State on Friday.

"I knew how much time was left, but I didn't know what we were running," said Fowler, whose bomb sent the Redbirds into the locker room with a 37-33 edge.
