NORMAL — Senior forward Phil Fayne was voted Illinois State's most valuable player by his teammates, it was announced during the team's banquet Tuesday night.
The 6-foot-9 Fayne averaged 15.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while being named to the all-Missouri Valley Conference first team. He also led the Redbirds in blocked shots (40) and steals (36).
Fayne was among 16 players nationally who had at least 30 steals, 30 blocked shots and made over half of their shots from the field (.542 field goal percentage).
Keith Fisher III, a transfer forward from San Jose State, was named the Torrey Ward Toughness Award winner.
