Last week in Jupiter. Fla., St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguer Paul DeJong was told to put any extra belongings on a large truck.
When the Illinois State product discovered that truck was headed for Springfield, Mo., he knew he was too.
“I didn’t really have too many expectations," DeJong said. "I figured I was probably going to Palm Beach so I was pleasantly surprised.”
DeJong and ex-ISU teammate Chad Hinshaw, a former Normal Community player, not only will start the minor league season in the Class AA Texas League later this week, but both saw action with their major league teams in spring training.
