NORMAL — Although understandably disappointed, Bo Durkac acknowledges he didn’t win enough games to prevent being relieved of his duties as Illinois State baseball coach Tuesday.
“I know it’s a bottom line business, and the bottom line is we haven’t gotten it done on the field. That falls on me,” Durkac said. “As a Division I coach, you have to produce or they go find somebody else."
Illinois State director of athletics Larry Lyons made the decision after the Redbirds finished their fourth season under Durkac at 22-30 overall and 9-12 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
"After evaluating our baseball program, we believe a change in direction of the program is necessary," Lyons said.
