The Illinois State soccer team opened its Missouri Valley Conference regular-season schedule on Friday with a 4-0 shutout of Indiana State at Adelaide Street Field in Normal.
The Redbirds (5-5-1, 1-0 MVC) got all the scoring they needed when Kelly Zickert scored on a freekick in the 17th minute. ISU kept up the offensive pressure, getting goals by Mikayla Unger and
Emily Dickman to put the Sycamores (4-7-0, 0-1) into a 3-0 hole at the half. Lauren Koehl closed out the scoring with a goal in the 64th minute.
Illinois State fired 20 shots at the Indiana State net while Redbird goalkeeper made a season-high nine saves for the win.
