Garrett Shea's two-run, bases-loaded double with nobody out in the first inning propelled the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team to a four-run uprising and a 7-2 win over North Central in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game Sunday at Horenberger Field.
IWU (9-9, 2-2 CCIW) added a pair of runs in the second and an insurance score in seventh to secure the first pitching win of the year for Eric Bennes.
Bennes delivered a solid five innings on the mound, giving up three hits and an unearned run. He walked two and struck out four. After a shaky relief effort from Braden Miller, who faced four batters in the sixth, Hunter Simon pitched three innings of hitless ball before Eric Kozlowski came on in the ninth to get the final three outs.
